SEPTEMBER 2003
  • Lee Hood Keynotes the Spokane Chamber Annual Meeting

  • INTEC convenes regional scientists meeting to discuss institute idea with Lee Hood in Spokane

  • Regional academic leadership meets with Lee Hood and David Galas

  • Leadership of WSU, GU, PHC, PNNL, ISB meet to discuss the potential of a partnership to support the proposed Institute

  • INTEC brings over 50 interested parties from the region participate in retreat at the Bozarth Center, Lee Hood and Mary Jo Waits keynote the event

  • Spokane Leadership delegation visits the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle, WA

  • Lee Hood and David Galas propose the Institute for Systems Medicine name

  • PricewaterhouseCoopers is introduced to the project

  • Institute for Systems Medicine Planning Authority (ISMPA) formed and submits 501(C)3 application

  • ISMPA Steering Committee formed

  • Spokane County provides $250,000 in support to the ISMPA

  • Spokane Leadership delegation including Senator Lisa Brown, Scott Morris and David Bonga from the Camas Institute visits TGen in Phoenix, AZ

  • Lee Hood, David Galas, Brian Pitcher, Jeff Nelson and John Stone visit TGen

  • GU, WSU, EHS, PHC agree to be founding partners and provide $120K each in support for the first year

  • ISMPA Partners and Lee Hood meet with Speaker Frank Chopp and Senate Majority Leader Lisa Brown in Olympia

  • Washington State agrees to provide $1,000,000 to the ISMPA

  • Avista Corporation agrees to donate $100,000 to the ISMPA

  • ISMPA delegation meets with UW President Mark Emmert

  • Spokane delegation along with Mayor Dennis Hession, Lee Huntsman and Marc Baldwin visit TGen and meet with Arizona Governor Napolitano

  • ISMPA Leadership meets with North Idaho College and Kootenai Medical Center to begin outreach for regional initiative

  • ISMPA receives $500,000 dollar federal appropriation to study epigenetic origin of disease

  • ISMPA releases PricewaterhouseCoopers prospectus

  • Institute for Systems Biology becomes a founding partner

  • ISMPA moves into the Institute for Systems Medicine Building formally the STC
